Our story began in Vancouver with a big dream and a simple job. As an international student working at McDonald’s, I always deeply loved filmmaking. One day, I asked myself: Why not follow my dream? That question changed everything.

At the time, I only had $2,000 left, and my tuition was due in two months. Instead of paying off my tuition, I made a bold decision—I bought my first camera. I started calling studios and individuals, searching for work. Every time, they would ask, “Do you even have a camera?” That one purchase opened doors, and it became the start of VFM.

The journey wasn’t easy. I hustled, learned quickly, and put my heart into every project. I worked with local studios and notable people; each experience fueled my passion even more. Three years later, Vancouver Filmmaker has grown beyond what I imagined. It’s a reminder that even the biggest dreams can come true with hard work and determination.

Our mission at VFM is more significant than just filmmaking. We want to inspire others, especially international students, to follow their passions. Many of us settle into ordinary jobs, not knowing what’s possible if we take a chance on our dreams. VFM shows that you can achieve great things if you believe in yourself and take that first step.
